Singapore's non-oil exports surge on strong non-electronics demand

Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) accelerated sharply in September, rising 68.4% compared to the same period last year, driven largely by surging demand for non-electronics products, according to preliminary trade data.

The September surge propelled year-to-date NODX growth to 27.6% for the first nine months of 2026, signalling sustained momentum in the city-state's export performance beyond its traditional electronics sector.

Non-electronics exports, which include refined petroleum products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and processed food, have emerged as a key growth driver as global supply chains diversify and demand for these commodities remains resilient. The outperformance reflects Singapore's success in leveraging its position as a regional trading hub and refining centre.

The robust export performance provides a bright spot for Singapore's economy, offsetting concerns about global growth headwinds. Continued strength in non-oil exports suggests manufacturing and trade-related activities remain on a solid footing, supporting employment and economic activity across the island.

Analysts will watch closely to determine whether September's exceptional growth rate can be sustained in the coming months, or whether it represents a seasonal uptick ahead of the year-end period.
