Singapore's Online Safety Commission handles 500+ reports in debut months

The Online Safety Commission, established to tackle digital harm in Singapore, has demonstrated significant activity since its launch, receiving 500-plus reports and successfully addressing the vast majority of complaints within its initial operational period.

According to the commission's interim performance metrics, more than 90 per cent of cases meeting eligibility criteria were resolved. This high resolution rate reflects the body's rapid response capability and streamlined complaint-handling procedures.

Doxxing and online harassment emerged as the most prevalent categories of reports submitted to the commission. These issues, which involve the malicious disclosure of personal information and targeted digital abuse respectively, have become increasingly common across regional digital platforms and pose significant risks to individual safety and privacy.

The commission's establishment represents Singapore's regulatory effort to create a dedicated mechanism for addressing online safety concerns outside traditional frameworks. The early performance data suggests strong public awareness and willingness to report incidents, while the high resolution rate indicates effective triage and intervention processes.

The findings underscore the ongoing challenges posed by digital harassment and privacy violations in Southeast Asia's increasingly connected digital landscape, where social media and online platforms continue to proliferate.
