Singapore's population reached 6.21 million in June 2026, representing a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year, according to latest demographic figures. The expansion was primarily fueled by an influx of foreign workers engaged in large-scale construction projects, including work on Terminal 5 at Changi Airport and other major infrastructure developments across the island.
The citizen population, by contrast, grew at a considerably slower pace of 0.7 percent, rising to 3.68 million from 3.66 million in June 2025. This divergence underscores Singapore's continued reliance on migrant labour for capital-intensive development projects as the city-state pursues its infrastructure modernization agenda.
The population figures reflect ongoing economic activity and construction momentum in Singapore, even as natural citizen population growth remains constrained by demographic trends affecting developed economies in the region.
