Singapore is moving to strengthen animal welfare protections with new standards governing dog trainers and pet grooming services. The Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) has introduced a revised code of animal welfare that mandates pet groomers maintain direct supervision of animals throughout grooming procedures.
The updated standards aim to ensure animals receive appropriate care and monitoring while in the hands of professional service providers. Pet groomers will no longer be permitted to leave animals unattended during sessions, a measure designed to prevent stress, injury, and other welfare concerns that may arise without proper oversight.
Dog trainers operating in Singapore will also be required to adhere to enhanced welfare protocols under the new code. The regulations reflect growing recognition of animal welfare standards in the pet care industry.
Looking ahead, AVS has announced plans for a more comprehensive review of animal welfare codes affecting pet owners broadly. The agency will undertake this wider update in 2027, signalling its commitment to maintaining contemporary standards across all aspects of pet ownership and professional animal care services in the region.
