Singapore tightens bus etiquette rules with hefty fines from late September

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is cracking down on disruptive behaviour aboard public buses, introducing stricter enforcement measures aimed at improving commuter experience across the island's transport network.

From September 23, commuters caught playing music at excessive volumes or placing their feet on seats will face on-the-spot fines of up to $500. The move represents a significant increase in penalties designed to deter inconsiderate behaviour and foster a more pleasant environment for all bus users.

More egregious offences could result in substantially higher penalties, with fines potentially reaching $5,000. The LTA has not specified which violations would trigger the maximum penalty tier, but the enhanced enforcement regime underscores the authority's commitment to maintaining standards of conduct on public transport.
