Singapore to Deploy N95 Mask Vending Machines When PSI Exceeds 200

Singapore plans to roll out 24-hour vending machines dispensing N95 masks to eligible residents if pollution levels reach hazardous levels. The initiative aims to provide quick access to protective equipment during severe haze episodes.

Singapore's authorities are preparing to activate a network of 24-hour N95 mask vending machines should the Pollutant Standards Index breach the 200 mark, triggering measures to protect public health during severe transboundary haze events.

The vending machines will be made available to eligible Singaporeans during periods when air quality deteriorates significantly. A PSI reading above 200 is classified as hazardous, posing serious health risks to the general population and requiring immediate intervention.

The initiative represents a proactive approach to managing haze-related health emergencies, which have periodically affected the region due to transboundary smoke from regional biomass burning. By pre-positioning distribution infrastructure, authorities aim to ensure rapid access to respiratory protection when air quality becomes critical.

Eligibility criteria for accessing the vending machines will be communicated to the public ahead of any deployment. The scheme complements existing public health advisories and measures implemented during episodes of poor air quality to safeguard residents' wellbeing.
