Singapore to Deploy Robotics and Automation at BTO Projects from 2027

Singapore's public housing agency plans to integrate smart technologies and automation into more Build-to-Order (BTO) project sites from 2027 onwards, according to a statement by a senior government official. The initiative represents an effort to modernise construction methods and address labour challenges in the building sector.

Robotic systems will be deployed for labour-intensive processes such as floor screeding, one of the more time-consuming and physically demanding tasks in residential construction. By automating these repetitive operations, the programme aims to improve construction efficiency and reduce manual workload on job sites.

The adoption of such technologies aligns with Singapore's broader push to embrace Industry 4.0 principles across various sectors. For the construction industry, which faces persistent manpower constraints, robotics and automation offer potential solutions to maintain productivity and project timelines.

The phased rollout beginning in 2027 will allow the HDB to test and refine these technologies across multiple BTO sites before wider implementation. The move is expected to benefit both construction workers and homebuyers through improved project delivery and quality standards.
