Singapore to distribute N95 masks when PSI breaches 200

Singapore's Haze Task Force has announced a tiered approach to managing air quality emergencies, with N95 mask distribution to vulnerable groups triggering when the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index reaches 200.

The vulnerable populations targeted for mask distribution include the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. The measure aims to provide direct protection to groups most susceptible to the health impacts of poor air quality during haze episodes.

School closures represent a further escalation in the response framework. Educational authorities will consider suspending classes when air quality forecasts indicate a 24-hour PSI exceeding 300 for the following day. This threshold reflects the serious health risks posed by severe air pollution to student populations.

The graduated response system allows authorities to implement proportionate measures based on air quality severity. Officials will continue monitoring forecasts and haze conditions to determine when each intervention level is activated. Residents are advised to check daily PSI readings and heed health advisories issued during periods of poor air quality.
