Singapore's government has signalled its intention to expand amusement ride offerings for children by easing regulatory requirements for operators who demonstrate compliance with safety standards. The move comes as authorities seek to balance greater accessibility to recreational facilities with maintained safety protocols. The regulatory shift will particularly benefit providers of small-scale rides such as kiddy trains and carousels. Under the revised framework, operators meeting specified safety criteria will face lower barriers to deployment and operation. Trade and Industry Minister Chee Hong Tat indicated that the relaxed rules would deliver significant cost savings for the ride industry. Installation expenses are projected to decline by up to SGD 20,000 per ride, while annual operational costs could drop by approximately SGD 2,000 for each attraction. These savings are expected to make ride ownership more economically viable for smaller operators and potentially accelerate expansion of such facilities at malls, theme parks, and entertainment venues across the island. The regulatory changes maintain safety as a core requirement, with rides only eligible for streamlined approval processes if they meet established safety performance standards.
