Singapore to expand full-day kindergarten care by 2030

Singapore's Ministry of Education is charting a course to provide full-day care across all MOE kindergartens by 2030, marking a significant shift in early childhood education delivery. The transition will see MOE staff assume direct management of care services, replacing the current model that relies on external operators.

The implementation will proceed in phases, beginning with pilot programmes at two kindergarten centres in 2027. This staged approach will allow the ministry to test operational procedures and refine systems before rolling out the service island-wide.

The move is expected to streamline childcare coordination and enhance consistency in service delivery across MOE kindergartens. By bringing care operations in-house, the ministry aims to strengthen integration between educational and care components of early childhood development.

The expansion reflects growing demand for full-day childcare options among working parents in Singapore. Current MOE kindergarten offerings typically operate on half-day or extended schedules, with external vendors managing supplementary care arrangements.

Education officials have indicated the transition will be managed carefully to ensure continuity of services and maintain quality standards throughout the implementation period.
