Singapore to roll out affordable produce vending machines within six months

Singapore is set to deploy between 30 and 40 pairs of vending machines dispensing fresh seafood and vegetables within the next six months, as part of efforts to boost local food production and affordability.

The vending machines will stock locally-produced vegetables at prices below S$2, making fresh produce more accessible to residents across the island. The initiative represents a shift towards modernising the distribution of domestically-grown food items and reducing reliance on imports.

The programme forms part of a broader push to strengthen Singapore's food security infrastructure. Alongside the vending machine rollout, the government will provide targeted support for fish farms seeking to scale up operations, addressing capacity constraints within the local aquaculture sector.

The dual-pronged approach reflects Singapore's commitment to the "30 by 30" goal, which aims to meet 30 per cent of the nation's nutritional needs through local production by 2030. By combining retail innovation with producer support, policymakers aim to create a more resilient and efficient local food system.
