Singapore to roll out upgraded HPV9 vaccine in schools from 2027

The Health Promotion Board (HPB) has announced plans to integrate the HPV9 vaccine into its school-based immunisation schedule from January 2027, marking a significant upgrade to the nation's cervical cancer prevention efforts.

Under the new programme, female students who have not yet commenced or completed their vaccination series will receive the nine-valent formulation instead of the current two-valent HPV vaccine. The HPV9 vaccine protects against nine strains of human papillomavirus, compared to the two strains covered by its predecessor, providing enhanced protection against multiple cancer-causing variants.

The transition aligns with evolving global health recommendations and reflects advances in vaccine technology. Health authorities have emphasised that the broader protection offered by HPV9 strengthens Singapore's preventive health strategy against HPV-related cancers, particularly cervical cancer in women.

The rollout will be implemented systematically across schools to ensure continuity of the immunisation programme. Students who have already completed their vaccination series with HPV2 will not require additional doses, according to current health guidelines.
