Singapore to tap ERP 2 data for crime prevention from January 2027

Starting January 2027, data collected from ERP 2 on-board units will be made available to support crime prevention, detection, deterrence and resolution efforts, authorities have announced. The Electronic Road Pricing 2 system, which tracks vehicle movements across Singapore's roads, will serve as an additional investigative resource for law enforcement agencies.

The initiative builds on Singapore's existing use of traffic and surveillance data in criminal investigations. By integrating ERP 2 data into law enforcement operations, authorities aim to enhance their capacity to prevent crimes before they occur, identify suspects more quickly, and strengthen prosecutions with movement data.

The ERP 2 system, which is set to replace the current ERP system nationwide, represents an upgrade to Singapore's congestion management infrastructure. The expansion of its data application to crime prevention demonstrates the multi-purpose utility of the new system beyond traffic management and revenue collection.

The move aligns with Singapore's broader strategy of leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance public safety and security. Officials have emphasised that data usage will be conducted within existing legal and regulatory frameworks governing law enforcement activities.
