Singapore and the United Arab Emirates will begin negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties, following high-level talks in the UAE capital.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, where the two countries formalised their commitment to expanded economic cooperation. The announcement comes as both nations seek to strengthen strategic linkages across multiple sectors.
Underscoring the breadth of bilateral engagement, Wong and Al Nahyan witnessed the signing of three cooperation agreements. These cover energy sector collaboration, water resources management and joint efforts in disease vector control—areas of mutual strategic interest to both countries.
The partnership negotiations signal Singapore's continued focus on deepening relations with key Gulf allies. The UAE, as a major trading hub and investment centre in the Middle East, represents an important economic partner for the city-state as it expands its regional economic network.
The agreements signed during the Abu Dhabi meeting demonstrate the practical scope of Singapore-UAE cooperation beyond traditional trade channels, encompassing critical infrastructure and public health considerations relevant to both nations' development priorities.
