Singapore watchdog alerts consumers to fake compensation email scams
Singapore's consumer protection agency has warned residents of phishing emails impersonating legitimate compensation offers. The fraudulent messages use forged sender addresses designed to appear official but do not originate from authentic domains.

The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) has issued an alert regarding a wave of deceptive emails targeting consumers with promises of compensation. These phishing attempts mimic official communications but originate from fraudulent email addresses rather than legitimate institutional domains.
When examined closely, recipients will discover that the sender addresses do not use authentic CASE domain credentials. Scammers have created lookalike email addresses designed to deceive recipients into believing they are receiving genuine communications from the consumer watchdog.
The fraudulent emails typically offer compensation for various consumer grievances, encouraging recipients to click links or provide personal information. Such tactics are commonly used in phishing schemes to harvest sensitive data or direct victims to malicious websites.
CASE urges consumers to verify the authenticity of unexpected compensation emails by checking the sender's domain directly rather than clicking embedded links. Legitimate communications from the organisation will always originate from official CASE email addresses. Consumers who receive suspicious emails are advised to delete them immediately and report the phishing attempts to CASE or relevant authorities.
This warning comes as part of ongoing efforts to educate the public about evolving cyber fraud tactics targeting Singapore residents.
