Police in Jammu and Kashmir have pinpointed Lateef Ahmad, a 21-year-old from Kulgam in south Kashmir, as the primary active local militant currently operating in the Union Territory. Ahmad has been identified as the perpetrator of a recent attack in Anantnag's Lal Chowk area that resulted in the death of a policeman.
Despite identifying Ahmad as the sole active local terrorist, Inspector General of Police Sujit Kumar cautioned that the terror threat in Kashmir remains a significant concern. The assessment reflects the complex security situation in the region, where local recruitment into militant networks continues to pose challenges for law enforcement agencies.
The incident in Anantnag represents one of the recent security challenges faced by police in south Kashmir, an area that has witnessed periodic militant activities. The identification of Ahmad underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to track and apprehend individuals involved in terrorist activities.
Police have intensified operations to neutralize the identified militant and prevent further violence. The development comes as security agencies continue monitoring the situation across Kashmir to prevent escalation of terrorist activities and protect civilian and security personnel lives.
