MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pasay City saw limited attendance Tuesday when podcast hosts summoned over controversial remarks made minimal appearance for questioning.
Of the five hosts subpoenaed in connection with the case, only one arrived to respond to the investigation. The summons was issued following complaints that the hosts of the podcast 'Machong Chismisan' made demeaning remarks about Josh Aquino, the autistic firstborn son of media personality Kris Aquino.
The incident has drawn public attention to broader concerns about online commentary targeting individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The NBI did not immediately confirm whether it would pursue contempt charges against the hosts who failed to appear or reschedule their appearances.
Kris Aquino previously voiced her concerns about the remarks made during the podcast, highlighting the need for greater responsibility among content creators engaging in commentary about vulnerable individuals. The case is being treated as part of the NBI's ongoing investigation into cyberlibel and related offenses.
