Single hour of heavy rain triggers massive traffic snarls across Gurugram

Heavy rain lashed Gurugram on Saturday, bringing vehicular movement to a near standstill across several critical routes. The Meteorological Department recorded 36 millimetres of rainfall within a single hour, triggering widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions that lasted well beyond the precipitation period.

Traffic jams were reported along major corridors including the stretch from Sarhaul Border to Rajiv Chowk, with congestion also affecting Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road and the Udyog Vihar industrial area. Commuters were forced to endure extended travel times as water accumulated on road surfaces, forcing authorities to impose diversions and traffic management measures.

The incident underscores ongoing drainage and infrastructure challenges in Gurugram, India's largest financial hub outside Delhi. Despite previous assurances of improved stormwater management systems, the city continues to face waterlogging issues during monsoon months, impacting both vehicular traffic and daily commercial activities.
