Singpass passkey feature expands to Android users for enhanced security

Singpass, the government's unified digital identity platform, has made its passkey feature available to Android users, broadening access to a more secure authentication method. Passkeys use biometric data such as fingerprints or facial recognition rather than traditional passwords, reducing exposure to common cyber threats.

The passkey system replaces the need to memorize or manage complex passwords, which security experts have long identified as a vulnerability point in digital security. By leveraging device-based authentication, the feature aims to protect users from phishing scams and unauthorised account access attempts that have become increasingly prevalent across the region.

Android users can now activate passkeys through their Singpass app, enabling them to authenticate transactions and access government digital services using their device's biometric capabilities. The expansion follows the earlier rollout to iOS users, reflecting efforts to ensure broad coverage across Singapore's population.
