SingPost reports 184% profit surge despite revenue decline

Singapore Post Limited reported a substantial increase in net profit for the first half of the financial year, with earnings climbing 183.7% to $55.9 million. The significant uplift was driven largely by a sale and leaseback agreement covering HDB shophouses, which bolstered the company's financial performance during the period.

Despite the profit gains, revenue declined marginally to $185.9 million from the prior-year period, down 1.3%. The postal operator attributed the revenue contraction primarily to falling international mail volumes, reflecting broader industry headwinds as digital communications continue to displace traditional mail services globally.

The divergence between profit and revenue growth underscores the benefit of SingPost's real estate transactions and asset-light strategies. The sale and leaseback arrangement provided a one-time cash benefit that significantly boosted the bottom line, offsetting operational revenue pressures.

The results highlight the operational challenges facing traditional postal services amid ongoing structural shifts in mail volumes. SingPost, which dominates Singapore's domestic postal market, continues to navigate the transition away from letter services while exploring alternative revenue streams and strategic asset monetisation opportunities.
