Sisters of jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan detained

Lahore's deputy commissioner has issued two separate detention orders targeting the siblings of Imran Khan, the incarcerated former prime minister who has faced mounting legal challenges since his ouster from office. The orders invoke Punjab's Maintenance of Public Order law to authorise their 30-day custody.
The detention of Khan's sisters represents a broadening of pressure against his political circle and family members. Khan has been held in custody on multiple charges and has maintained that legal proceedings against him are politically motivated.
The Maintenance of Public Order law, a colonial-era statute, grants administrative authorities the power to detain individuals deemed threats to public order without requiring criminal charges. Pakistani human rights groups have long criticised the law as susceptible to abuse for suppressing political opposition.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions between Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and the ruling coalition government. Khan's arrest last year triggered mass protests, and his continued detention has kept political temperatures high across Pakistan.
