Sisters transform ocean passion into marine science education vessel

Angela Rosenberg and her sister have channelled their lifelong passion for the ocean into a substantive educational initiative, establishing the ANGARI Foundation to advance marine science learning among students. The foundation operates R/V ANGARI, a 65-foot research vessel designed to facilitate real-world scientific expeditions and field experiences for participants.

In partnership with Florida International University, the foundation has developed a programme enabling students to engage directly in marine research activities. Participants aboard the vessel undertake practical work including shark tagging operations and plankton investigation, providing authentic exposure to oceanographic fieldwork and methodologies.

The initiative aims to cultivate deeper engagement with marine science among young learners and strengthen their connection to ocean ecosystems. By offering experiential learning opportunities that extend beyond traditional classroom instruction, the foundation addresses existing gaps in marine science education accessibility across the region.

The R/V ANGARI programme represents a growing recognition of the importance of experiential learning in scientific disciplines, particularly in fields requiring direct observation and hands-on research experience. The vessel-based platform allows students to develop practical skills while contributing to genuine scientific endeavours in marine environments.
