The Special Task Force (STF) in Assam has arrested six persons accused of operating as money mules in an organized financial fraud network, officials said on Thursday. The arrests mark a significant development in an ongoing investigation into unauthorized banking activities across the state.

According to investigators, the suspects were allegedly part of a coordinated scheme that exploited bank accounts for fraudulent transactions. The network is believed to have operated under the direction of a key coordinator positioned outside Assam, who allegedly orchestrated account management and transaction flows across multiple locations.

The STF is currently probing suspected international connections, with preliminary inquiries focusing on possible coordination links to operatives across the border. Officials indicated that the investigation extends beyond the immediate suspects in custody, with particular attention being paid to the network's command structure and funding sources.

Mule account scams, in which individuals lend their bank credentials to facilitators for processing illicit funds, have emerged as a persistent challenge for law enforcement across India. The Assam case reflects broader concerns about the vulnerability of the banking system to organized financial crime networks operating through transnational channels.
