The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced on Tuesday that the firms have complied with regulatory orders by revising packaging, withdrawing false claims, and ensuring proper product classification. The corrective actions address violations ranging from misrepresentation of product categories to non-compliant labelling practices.
The six food business operators who have rectified violations are Lotte India Corporation Pvt Ltd, Dabur India, Ferns N Petals Pvt Ltd, Eat Better Ventures Pvt Ltd, S S Product Prop, and Om Sai Healthcare. The FSSAI said these major companies demonstrated prompt responsiveness to regulatory intervention.
In a notable case, Dabur was found to be marketing an ayurvedic proprietary medicinal oil as an edible oil, a significant product misclassification that raised consumer safety concerns. The company has since corrected its product categorisation and labelling to comply with food safety standards.
"Following notices from FSSAI, major food business operators have taken prompt corrective actions. Measures range from withdrawing misleading label claims to revising product packaging to ensure consumer safety and compliance," the regulator stated. The action reflects the FSSAI's strengthened enforcement against misleading food labelling and advertising practices affecting Indian consumers.
