Six Malaysian areas record unhealthy air quality; Johor worst hit

Air quality deteriorated across Malaysia on Wednesday, with six areas recording readings in the unhealthy range according to the latest Air Pollutant Index data. Johor state accounted for the majority of problem zones, reflecting worsening air conditions in the southern region. Kota Tinggi recorded the highest reading at 165, followed closely by Pasir Gudang at 163 and Pengerang at 162. Larkin, also in Johor, registered 156 on the index. The remaining two areas with unhealthy readings were located outside the state. An Air Pollutant Index reading between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, with authorities recommending that vulnerable groups including children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions limit outdoor activities. The Malaysian Department of Environment continues to monitor air quality across the country and issues daily updates to guide public health precautions.
