Six members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) have surrendered to Chhattisgarh Police in Bijapur district, officials confirmed. The surrendered individuals have been identified as Rani Sodhi alias Sandhya, Pando Podiyam alias Sasmita, Sukku Kudiyam alias Santosh, Kosa Madvi alias Satish, Deve Madkam alias Janni and Lalu Tati.
The surrender represents a significant gain for security forces in their ongoing counter-insurgency campaign across Chhattisgarh, where Maoist groups have maintained a presence in forested and mineral-rich regions. Bijapur district, located in the state's Bastar region, has been identified as a stronghold of the banned organization.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the circumstances leading to the surrender or details regarding the operational history of the six individuals. Chhattisgarh Police has intensified anti-Maoist operations in recent years, combining military campaigns with rehabilitation programs aimed at encouraging insurgents to lay down arms and rejoin mainstream society.
The development comes amid broader efforts by state and central security agencies to counter left-wing extremism across India's mineral-rich eastern and central regions.
