Six areas in Sarawak have registered hazardous air quality levels, according to latest air quality monitoring data. The readings underscore persistent air pollution challenges affecting various parts of the state.
Three locations recorded particularly alarming measurements in the very unhealthy category. Mukah registered an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 234, while Bintulu reached 232. Samalaju also posted a concerning level of 225, indicating severe air quality deterioration in these areas.
API readings in the hazardous range typically prompt health warnings and recommendations for residents to limit outdoor activities. Very unhealthy readings, which extend from 200 and above, pose significant risks to vulnerable populations including children, elderly residents, and those with respiratory conditions.
