Air pollution has reached hazardous levels across six locations in Sarawak, with the town of Serian emerging as the worst-affected area, according to latest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings released Wednesday. The API measurements, which classify air quality on a scale ranging from good to hazardous, indicate very unhealthy conditions in multiple districts throughout the state. Readings exceeding 200 on the API scale are categorized as very unhealthy and pose significant health risks to the general population, particularly vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
The deterioration in air quality has prompted health authorities to advise residents in affected areas to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions.
