COTABATO CITY — Six suspected members of the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed Saturday during a security operation in Barangay Balong in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines jointly conducted the law enforcement operation targeting the armed group. The clash resulted in the deaths of the six militants, according to official reports.
The BIFF, a splinter faction of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, has been designated as an outlawed organization and remains a primary security concern in the BARMM region. The group has been linked to various militant activities and attacks in Mindanao over recent years.
The operation reflects ongoing government efforts to maintain security and combat armed threats in the autonomous region. Authorities continue to conduct counterinsurgency operations to suppress militant activities and protect civilian populations in conflict-affected areas.
No immediate casualty figures were reported among government forces involved in the operation.
