Out of 880 construction projects currently underway nationwide, 38 have been classified as troubled projects, collectively representing RM2.08 billion in current value as of 31 October, officials confirmed.
The minister responsible for project oversight announced that six of these ailing projects would face contract termination as part of remedial action. The decision reflects the government's commitment to addressing delays and performance issues that have plagued these developments.
Projects classified as "sick" typically face significant delays, cost overruns, or quality concerns that prevent them from meeting contractual obligations. The identification of such projects forms part of regular monitoring conducted by relevant government agencies to ensure accountability in public and private sector construction spending.
The terminations represent less than one percent of the total 880 projects under construction, though officials have indicated that comprehensive oversight measures remain in place across the portfolio to prevent further deterioration in project performance.
The move comes as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure delivery standards and ensure public funds allocated to construction projects achieve their intended outcomes within agreed timelines and budgets.
