SJB protest triggers traffic snarls near Parliament in Battaramulla

Traffic congestion was reported across major routes near Parliament and the Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla on Tuesday as the opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) staged a protest demonstration against the 22nd Amendment.

The demonstration commenced at 9:00 a.m., drawing participants to the Polduwa Junction area. SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara confirmed that the protest was organised in opposition to the constitutional amendment, marking the party's continued resistance to the government measure.

Motorists using routes through the parliamentary district experienced delays as the demonstration proceeded. Commuters were advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the congested areas as the protest unfolded throughout the morning.

The 22nd Amendment has remained a focal point of political contention since its introduction, with opposition parties staging periodic demonstrations to voice their objections to the proposed constitutional changes.
