SJB to launch no-confidence motion against House Speaker

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has begun the formal signing process for a no-confidence motion against Speaker of House Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, with the petition expected to be submitted by Friday, October 9.

The no-confidence motion is grounded in 49 allegations against the Speaker, according to statements from the opposition party. The signing phase commenced on October 6, marking the initial step in the parliamentary procedure.

SJB leadership discussed the matter at the Opposition Leader's office, reaffirming the party's commitment to advancing the motion through parliament. The development represents a significant escalation in parliamentary tensions as the opposition seeks to challenge the Speaker's position through the constitutionally prescribed mechanism.

The submission of the no-confidence motion would trigger formal parliamentary proceedings, during which the Speaker would have the opportunity to respond to the allegations before any parliamentary vote takes place.
