SK Hynix to award majority of bonuses in equity under tentative agreement
South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix has agreed to a preliminary compensation arrangement whereby employees will receive 60 per cent of their bonuses in company stock, with the remaining 40 per cent paid in cash.

Under the tentative deal, SK Hynix employees will see a significant portion of their performance bonuses converted into equity holdings rather than receiving full cash disbursements. The arrangement reflects broader trends among technology firms seeking to align employee interests with shareholder value while managing cash outflows during periods of industry volatility.
The stock-based compensation component represents 60 per cent of total bonus payments, while the remaining 40 per cent will continue to be distributed in cash. This mixed approach allows the company to balance employee compensation with capital preservation strategies.
SK Hynix, a major global supplier of memory chips, has faced considerable pressure from fluctuating semiconductor market conditions in recent years. The shift toward equity-based bonuses may help the company maintain competitive compensation packages while preserving liquidity for operational and strategic investments.
The preliminary nature of the agreement suggests further discussions may occur between management and employee representatives before finalisation. Details regarding share pricing, vesting schedules, and implementation timelines were not disclosed at this stage.
