Slack Co-founder Butterfield Offloads Aspen Estate for $30 Million

The sale of the Colorado mountain estate was finalized following Butterfield's recent separation from Jen Rubio, founder and chief designer of luggage company Away. The couple originally purchased the property in January 2021 for approximately $25 million, with initial asking prices reaching $45 million before the final negotiated sale.

The estate has been acquired by David and Erika Sands, professional poker players with extensive real estate portfolios spanning New York and California. Their purchase of the Aspen property represents an addition to their growing collection of high-value properties across major American markets.

The transaction underscores the continued strength of ultra-luxury real estate markets in Colorado's premier mountain communities. Despite the substantial initial asking price, the property's final sale value reflected current market conditions for high-end resort properties in the region.

While the sale concludes Butterfield and Rubio's joint ownership of the Aspen holding, representatives emphasized the transaction timing was driven by standard real estate market factors rather than circumstances related to their recent personal separation.
