SLEME completes restoration of Army vehicle fleet to operational status

Technicians attached to the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) have completed comprehensive restoration work on a fleet of Army vehicles, returning them to full motorable condition through in-house repair operations.

The Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (DEME) supervised the rehabilitation programme at SLEME Base Workshops, where specialist personnel undertook the necessary repairs and refurbishment work. The successful completion of the project demonstrates the technical capability of Sri Lanka's military engineering divisions to conduct major vehicle restoration independently.

By executing the repair work through internal military resources rather than procuring replacement vehicles, the Defence establishment has achieved significant fiscal savings. The approach reflects a strategic shift toward maximizing the operational lifespan of existing military assets through skilled technical intervention.

The restored vehicle fleet is now available for operational deployment across Army units. The project underscores the importance of maintaining robust in-house engineering capacity within the military to sustain equipment serviceability and reduce capital expenditure on new acquisitions.
