SLMC's Habeeb Rifan takes oath as National List MP
Habeeb Rifan was sworn in as a National List Member of Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress on Wednesday morning. He assumes the seat vacated by Mohamed Sheriff Abthul's resignation.

Rifan took the oath of office before Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne following the commencement of parliamentary proceedings at 9:30 a.m. on September 24.
The newly sworn-in legislator fills a vacancy created by the departure of fellow SLMC member Mohamed Sheriff Abthul, whose resignation opened the National List position.
Rifan's appointment comes as the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress continues its parliamentary representation in the current legislature. His swearing-in underscores the party's ongoing presence in the House following recent political transitions.
The National List allocation system allows political parties to nominate candidates based on their parliamentary representation, enabling parties to bring additional members into the legislature beyond those elected through electoral districts.
