SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa remanded in custody until late September
Colombo Magistrate's Court has extended the detention of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa until September 29, 2026, following his arrest by anti-corruption authorities. Rajapaksa faces allegations of accepting a substantial bribe linked to aircraft procurement.

The Colombo Magistrate's Court has further remanded SLPP National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa in custody, with his detention extended until September 29, 2026.
Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) following allegations that he accepted a Rs. 100 million bribe. The bribe is reportedly connected to the procurement of an Airbus aircraft, according to the investigating authority.
The decision to extend his remand was issued by the Colombo Magistrate's Court during proceedings on the case. As a senior figure within the ruling SLPP and a sitting parliamentarian, the case has attracted significant public attention.
The CIABOC investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather evidence related to the alleged corruption offence. Rajapaksa has been held in custody pending the continuation of legal proceedings.
