Johnston Fernando, former Minister and Head of Operations for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), levelled accusations of evidence fabrication against state officials on Wednesday. Speaking outside the Fort Magistrate's Court, Fernando alleged that select government officers are systematically abusing legal processes to target opposition figures.

Fernando stated that while he maintained faith in an independent judiciary, he was deeply concerned about the conduct of certain officials involved in investigations and evidence gathering. The former minister's remarks underscore ongoing tensions surrounding the impartiality of law enforcement institutions in the country.

His comments come amid a broader backdrop of political friction between the ruling administration and opposition parties, with questions frequently raised about the selective application of legal mechanisms. Fernando's allegations add to the discourse surrounding institutional independence and the politicization of prosecutorial processes in Sri Lanka.

The remarks represent a significant public criticism from within the SLPP regarding state institutions, suggesting internal concerns about the fairness of ongoing legal proceedings affecting political opposition members.
