SMC chief blames NLEx flooding on debris from bridge repair work
San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang has attributed recent flooding along the North Luzon Expressway to soil and debris accumulated during 2024 maintenance of the NLEx Tulaoc Bridge. The accumulated material allegedly obstructed water flow from Pantabangan Dam, he told Bulacan journalists.

SAN MIGUEL Corporation president Ramon Ang pointed to construction debris as the root cause of flooding that affected the North Luzon Expressway, during remarks made to media in Bulacan on Tuesday.
Ang said soil and debris leftover from repair work on the NLEx Tulaoc Bridge in 2024 had accumulated in a manner that blocked the natural flow of water being released from Pantabangan Dam.
The obstruction of water drainage along the expressway corridor has been a recurring concern for motorists and residents in the region, particularly during the monsoon season when dam releases increase.
SMC, which operates the major north-south tollway, did not immediately detail remedial measures or a timeline for clearing the accumulated debris from the affected areas along the expressway.
The NLEx remains a critical transportation artery for Metro Manila and northern Luzon, carrying hundreds of thousands of vehicles daily. Flooding incidents along the route have previously caused significant traffic delays and economic disruption.
