The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed Mandhana's appointment as captain for ODIs, T20 Internationals, and Test matches, effective immediately. Mandhana, who served as vice-captain under Harmanpreet for an extended period, inherits the role at a crucial juncture for Indian women's cricket.

Harmanpreet Kaur's tenure as captain spanned nearly ten years, during which she steered the team through numerous international campaigns and contributed significantly to raising the profile of women's cricket in India. Her decision to step down comes as the sport enters a new phase of development in the region.

Mandhana brings considerable leadership experience to the position, having previously captained India in four One-Day Internationals and 18 Twenty20 Internationals. She has also led Maharashtra in domestic cricket, demonstrating her ability to manage teams at multiple levels of competition.

The transition underscores the depth of leadership talent within the Indian women's cricket setup. Mandhana's appointment is expected to provide continuity while potentially introducing fresh perspectives to the team's strategic approach in the coming months and years.
