Snake found inside washing machine in central India raises safety concerns

A snake was discovered inside a washing machine in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh, prompting local authorities to issue safety advisories to residents. The incident has raised concerns about the risks posed by keeping household appliances in open or semi-open areas such as balconies, porches, and outdoor spaces.

Experts warn that such locations provide easy access for reptiles and other animals seeking shelter, particularly during weather changes or when hunting for prey. The warm, enclosed environment of washing machines can inadvertently attract snakes searching for refuge or small rodents that may have nested inside the appliance.

Residents who store washing machines outdoors are advised to inspect the machines thoroughly before use, particularly after extended periods of non-operation. Keeping the surrounding area clear of clutter and ensuring proper sealing of gaps can help minimize wildlife intrusion.

Local wildlife officials recommend that households in snake-prone areas maintain vigilance and contact professional snake handlers immediately if a reptile is spotted. Regular maintenance checks and storing appliances in enclosed spaces when possible remain the most effective preventive measures against such incidents.
