KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will distribute RM174,000 in death and survivor benefits to families of 28 victims from the Nepal-Tibet flood disaster, Human Resources Minister Ramanan Ramakrishnan announced today.
The payments follow a natural disaster that claimed 54 lives, with 28 of the victims confirmed as Malaysian workers or individuals covered under Socso's scheme. The organisation has processed claims from eligible next-of-kin, fulfilling its obligations to provide financial support during times of crisis.
Ramanan said the disbursements reflect Malaysia's responsibility towards its workers abroad and their families. Socso continues to assess additional claims and stands ready to provide further assistance to qualifying beneficiaries, he added.
The minister did not disclose the timeline for full disbursement but emphasised that Socso remains committed to expediting the payment process. Families wishing to submit claims or seek information about eligibility requirements have been urged to contact Socso directly for guidance and support.
