COTABATO CITY — Authorities in Maguindanao del Norte are investigating the fatal shooting of a solar panel installer in Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Merham Tugis Amilol, 26, of Barangay Banubo, Sultan Kudarat, was killed by unidentified gunmen, according to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR).
Capt. Steffi Salanguit, PRO-BAR spokesperson, confirmed the incident but provided no further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or any possible motive. The exact location and time of the incident remain unclear pending additional investigation.
The killing comes amid a gun ban imposed in the Bangsamoro region ahead of the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections scheduled for September 14. Such firearms bans are typically implemented before elections to prevent election-related violence and maintain public order. Authorities have not disclosed whether the shooting has any connection to the electoral process.
