The gunfight erupted as security forces moved to rescue civilians held by armed elements in the Cox's Bazar border region. During the operation, 57 hostages were successfully freed and removed to safety, the ISPR confirmed.
However, five individuals remain unaccounted for and are believed to still be held by the armed group. The military has not disclosed additional details regarding the identity of the hostages or the exact circumstances surrounding their initial detention.
