A woman died after being set ablaze by her son in Medak district, Telangana, in an incident authorities say stemmed from accusations of witchcraft. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Syamma, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the incident.

The accused, 21-year-old Durgesh, allegedly poured diesel on his mother before igniting her. According to preliminary police reports, Durgesh had grown suspicious that his mother was practicing black magic, a belief that allegedly prompted the violent attack.

Tekamal police responded to the incident and took the accused into custody. Investigators have launched a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death. The case highlights ongoing concerns in certain regions regarding superstitions related to witchcraft accusations and their tragic consequences.
