Sony India net profit surges 19% despite tepid revenue growth

Sony India, the wholly-owned Indian subsidiary of Japanese technology conglomerate Sony Corporation, reported improved profitability in the latest financial year despite muted top-line expansion. Net profit climbed to ₹186.88 crore, a significant jump from ₹157.03 crore in the preceding fiscal year. Revenue from operations grew marginally to ₹7,917.99 crore compared with ₹7,851.08 crore in fiscal 2025, reflecting a 0.85 percent increase.

Total income, inclusive of other income sources, reached ₹8,022.73 crore in fiscal 2026, representing a 1.32 percent year-on-year expansion. The marginal improvement in overall income suggests the company benefitted from better operational efficiency and cost management during the period.

Sony India has established itself as a significant market for the Japanese parent company. The nation currently ranks as Sony's fourth-largest market globally, trailing only the United States, China, and Japan. The company has articulated ambitious growth aspirations for India, targeting to elevate the country to its third-largest market worldwide within the medium term, surpassing Japan in revenue contribution.

Operational expenses showed disciplined management during the fiscal year. Advertising and promotional expenses declined marginally to ₹182.58 crore from ₹183.71 crore in the prior year, indicating controlled marketing expenditure despite competitive market dynamics in the Indian consumer electronics segment.
