South Coast Railway has reached a significant milestone at the 100-day mark, with substantial progress on infrastructure development and modernisation initiatives across its jurisdiction. The zone has secured sanctions for ₹54,479 crore worth of projects, positioning it as a key driver of railway expansion in the region.
Among the major undertakings is the comprehensive remodelling of Visakhapatnam yard, a critical infrastructure project aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. The zone has also obtained approval for quadrupling of the Guntakal-Ballari line, a move expected to significantly boost freight and passenger capacity along this strategic corridor.
In a parallel push toward safety modernisation, South Coast Railway has installed Kavach automatic train protection systems on approximately 100 locomotives. This collision avoidance technology represents a significant step in enhancing operational safety across the zone's fleet.
The zone has also focused on improving passenger amenities by inaugurating three stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to enhance comfort and facilities at railway stations nationwide. These developments underscore South Coast Railway's commitment to balancing infrastructure expansion with safety and passenger experience improvements during its initial months of operation.
