South Indian Bank's financial performance strengthened in the October-December quarter, with net profit climbing to ₹426 crore from ₹351 crore in the year-ago period. The lender's core profitability metrics reflected robust growth across its lending and deposit operations during the quarter.
Net interest income, a key indicator of a bank's lending profitability, surged 38% to touch ₹1,116 crore in Q2FY27, marking a record high for the bank. This substantial expansion in interest income outpaced profit growth, reflecting improved operational efficiency and stronger demand for the bank's credit products across its South and Southeast Asian markets.
Asset quality metrics also improved during the quarter, with gross non-performing assets declining to 1.24%, indicating better credit quality in the bank's loan portfolio. The reduction in stressed assets suggests improved underwriting standards and better collection efforts during a period of economic uncertainty.
The results underscore South Indian Bank's strengthened market position as it continues to expand its presence across the region, supported by growing customer base and improving loan disbursements that contributed to the higher net interest income.
