South Korea and Kazakhstan sealed a memorandum of understanding on the peaceful use of nuclear energy during high-level talks in Seoul on Tuesday, signalling a significant expansion of their strategic partnership. The accord was reached as the countries' leaders met to chart a broader cooperation framework addressing energy security, critical minerals trade and artificial intelligence development. The MoU underscores South Korea's growing nuclear diplomacy in Central Asia at a time when Seoul is seeking to secure supply chains for materials essential to its technology and energy sectors. Kazakhstan, home to vast uranium and rare earth mineral reserves, represents a key strategic partner for South Korea's clean energy ambitions and industrial expansion. Beyond nuclear cooperation, the two nations committed to strengthening economic ties and exploring joint ventures in emerging technology sectors, reflecting mutual interest in deeper engagement across multiple domains.
