South Korea vows firm response to North Korean border violations

South Korea will take decisive action against North Korean breaches of the inter-Korean border, according to National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac, signalling Seoul's determination to maintain security along one of the world's most sensitive frontiers.

Wi's statement comes as tensions persist between the two nations, with North Korea claiming its recent military activities occur entirely within its own territory. South Korean authorities, however, have documented multiple instances of North Korean forces crossing into the demilitarised zone, the heavily fortified buffer separating the two countries.

The security adviser's remarks underscore South Korea's commitment to responding robustly to any violations of the Korean Armistice Agreement, which has governed the ceasefire since 1953. Seoul has consistently maintained that it reserves the right to take appropriate measures to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The situation reflects escalating military tensions on the Korean Peninsula, where North Korea has conducted numerous weapons tests and military exercises in recent months. South Korea and its ally the United States have responded with their own joint military drills and strategic deployments in the region.

Official channels between the two nations remain strained, with diplomatic dialogue limited. International observers continue to monitor the situation closely as both sides maintain heightened military readiness along the border.
